Prepare the measurement chain
Room EQ Wizard uses a logarithmic sine sweep to derive amplitude and phase information from the stimulus and captured microphone signal.
Its documented setup workflow includes selecting the audio input and output, calibrating the interface, checking levels, and calibrating SPL.
- Keep comparison sweep levels consistent and avoid input clipping.
- Use the calibration file that matches the microphone orientation in use.
Interpret a room measurement in context
An in-room sweep includes both direct sound and reflections, so its transfer function changes when either the microphone or source position changes.
Impulse-response windowing and real-time analysis answer different questions about direct and reflected sound.
- Use multiple microphone positions when investigating a listening area rather than a single point.
- Do not treat DSP equalization as a way to change reverberation time.
